Keep an eye out for the new services coming soon to MCCAFFREYS
At MCCAFFREYS we see the widest variety of shaving routines known to man!! These typically range from the good routine executed by the product conscious gentlemen, who enjoys spending time shaving, to the gentleman who considers shaving a chore and uses ‘whatever he can find’ product wise.
So we have decided to focus this month’s Blog on those gentlemen who consider those in-growing hairs and razor burn par for the course when it comes to shaving!!
We have broken the shaving process down into 3 simple steps that, believe it or not will not add hours on to your morning shave!
Step 1 – Pre shave
Start off by using a face wash in the shower (Ideally something male specific. Men-U Healthy face wash is the perfect example). The heat of the shower will help to soften the bristles of your beard and open your pores. Using a face wash removes any dirt and bacteria from the surface of the skin and ensures the blade glides smoothly throughout the shave. It also prevents those unwanted spots.
Step 2 – Shaving the face
Lather the shaving cream (I would recommend the Proraso Shave foam) into your face in a circular motion. This ensures that you lubricate the skin and get under the beard stubble. Remember guys with this process the thicker the application the better!! Ensure that you use a sharp blade to prevent pulling which leaves you with that unwanted razor burn.
Typically if you shave every day a blade will last no longer than 1 week!! Not ideal but that’s the way it is.
Shave with the grain (the direction the hair grows). Shaving your beard stubble against the grain can cause redness, razor burn and rashes. Rinse the head of your razor in warm water after every stroke.
Step 3 – Post shave
Once you have finished shaving, rinse your face with warm water and apply an after shave balm and/or moisturiser (2 great examples of these are Baxter of California’s After shave balm and oil free moisturiser), to sooth and protect your skin as your pores will still be open. It also helps to re-hydrate the skin, leaving you with a clean, sharp finish. You should use the logic that after every shave you will loose at least 1 layer of skin so re-hydrating it is imperative!!
The end result is simple……… The perfect wet shave.
